Homeopathy has no statutory practitioner regulator in the UK. The Society of Homeopaths, Alliance of Registered Homeopaths and Faculty of Homeopathy are separate membership or registration bodies with different entry routes and designations.
Statutory and voluntary registers are different
A statutory regulator is created or recognised in law for a regulated profession. Examples include the General Medical Council for doctors and the General Pharmaceutical Council for pharmacists. A voluntary register sets standards for people who choose to join it, but it does not control who may use the title “homeopath”.

Society of Homeopaths and RSHom
The Society says that practitioners with the RSHom designation can appear on its public register. Its current public information says UK registrants meet its educational and professional requirements, follow its code, hold professional indemnity insurance and continue professional development.
The Society is not currently part of the Professional Standards Authority’s Accredited Registers programme. The PSA records that the Society voluntarily left the programme on 23 July 2021 after an earlier suspension. An RSHom listing must not be described as current PSA accreditation.
Alliance of Registered Homeopaths and MARH
The ARH says registered members may use the letters MARH and appear on its online register. Its joining information describes recognised training routes, a code of ethics and access to an insurance scheme.
ARH membership is voluntary professional membership. It is not statutory healthcare registration. Check the live directory and the exact membership category rather than relying on letters copied onto a website.
Faculty of Homeopathy categories
The Faculty publishes several categories, including Affiliate, Licentiate, Member and Fellow routes. Its current descriptions show that eligibility and meaning differ by category. Some higher routes are linked to people who also hold statutory registration in a healthcare or veterinary profession.
Check the exact category and then verify any claimed medical, nursing, pharmacy or veterinary status on the relevant statutory register. Faculty membership alone should not be used to infer that someone is a medical doctor.
What a voluntary entry may help you check
- The person’s name and whether the listing appears current
- The body’s stated entry requirements
- A code of conduct or ethics
- Insurance or continuing-development requirements, where the body states them
- A complaints and disciplinary route
What it cannot prove
- That homeopathy treats, cures or prevents a medical condition
- That a non-medical practitioner is a doctor or other regulated clinician
- That every claim on a practitioner’s website complies with advertising rules
- That a listing is current if it cannot be found in the live directory
How to verify a claim
- Record the practitioner’s full professional name.
- Ask which body and designation they claim.
- Search the body’s own current directory.
- Check whether the listing matches the service and location.
- Verify any regulated healthcare title separately.
- Read the body’s current complaints process.
